Game Day Cheese Ball

I was never an NFL fan until I met and married my hubby. Sunday football is a big deal in our house, and from September to February I can always count on having my boys parked on the couch eating snacks and yelling at the TV. Hubby is a die-hard Saints fan and is starting our boy out early:

We’re even part of a fantasy pool with some friends, and there is always a Super Bowl party with the group so that the winner can rub it in everyone’s faces. Sadly, I didn’t win this year (or last year for that matter), so I won’t be doing any bragging. Instead, I’ll be doing lots of cooking, since we’re hosting the party this year.

With Super Bowl just a couple short weeks away, I’m spending this week planning out some recipes.

I love this cheese ball because it’s easy, can be made ahead of time, always gets a few, “Aww, that’s so cute!” comments, and…who doesn’t love a cheese ball?

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 8 ounce packages cream cheese, softened
  • 1 clove garlic minced
  • 1/2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp Tobasco
  • 2 green onions thinly sliced
  • 1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup pecans coarsely chopped

Instructions

  • Set aside 1 tbsp cream cheese for the lacing.
  • In a medium bowl, beat together cream cheese, garlic, Worcestershire and Tobasco until smooth and creamy.
  • Add green onions and cheese, beat until combined.
  • Form the mixture into a football shape (this is easy if you use wax paper) and place on a plate.
  • Press the pecans into the top and sides of the "football".
  • Place the reserved cream cheese in a piping bag (or ziploc bag with a corner cut out). Warm with your hands until it is easy to pipe. Pipe lacing onto the cheese ball.
