White Chocolate Brownies

White Chocolate Brownies

If you haven’t ever been to Moxie’s (a large restaurant chain in Canada), I would highly recommend it.  Their white chocolate brownie is to die for.  It packs around 1300 calories a piece because their giant serving size is topped with ice cream, whipped cream, and of course, chocolate sauce.  1300 of the most amazing calories you will ever eat.

A former co-worker gave me this recipe and I have to say – it is so darn close to Moxie’s, it’s scary.   Melt in your mouth sinful.  ”Somebody stop me now before I have a 3rd piece” kind of amazing.

I had this recipe for a few years before I finally gave it a try, and I can’t believe I’ve missed out on eating it for so long.  That’s probably a good thing though.

White chocolate melted together with sugar and butter, and blended into a cake batter….it sounds decadent just reading it!  Unfortunately, I completely forgot to drizzle mine with chocolate sauce because I was in such a rush to taste it – but next time I’ll be sure to do that.

Make sure and serve warm, topped with ice-cream.  You will be very thankful you took my advice.

Author:
Yield: 9 servings

Ingredients
  • 4 oz (4 squares) white baking chocolate, chopped
  • ⅔ to ¾ cup sugar (we find ⅔ cup is still fairly sweet)
  • ½ cup butter
  • 2 eggs
  • 1½ tsp vanilla
  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • dash of salt
  • ¾ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions
  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. In a large microwaveable glass bowl, combine white chocolate pieces, sugar and butter. Heat in microwave 1 to 1½ minutes, stirring occasionally, or until melted and smooth when stirred.
  3. With a whisk or a fork, beat in eggs and vanilla until well blended.
  4. Add flour, baking powder and salt. Stir until mixed and cool to lukewarm. Stir in chocolate chips.
  5. Spread evenly in a greased 8 inch square pan.
  6. Bake 30-35 minutes in preheated oven, or until golden brown and toothpick inserted come out clean.

  1. Nice lighting on these photos!

  2. Thanks Wendy! It’s always better when I’m cooking during the day…but I only get the chance the odd weekend!! I can’t wait until summer is here so that it will be lighter out. Either that, or when I get a better camera and take a photography course…whichever comes first. ;)

  3. I made these last night and they were amazing! Thanks for the great recipe! :)

    • I’m glad you liked them Jeni! They’re a new favorite in our house!

  4. I just took mine out of the pan! Sooo yummy, I can’t wait till I can share it with my family! I think this tastes better than the ones from Moxies.
Super simple recipe to follow, and I love the microwaving the white chocolate, it’s so much easier and much quicker then melting in a pot on the stove. (I’m going to try this with other recipes)

    Thankyou so much for this!

    • So glad you like them Marjorie!

  5. GAH! I’m so excited to try theses!! I was just a Moxie’s on tuesday and I love their white chocolate brownies, since then I have a mad craving!!

What kind of chocolate chips did you use? Semi-sweet?!

    • I did Julie! I’ll update the recipe to indicate that. Thanks for catching that!

  6. Mine did not turn out anything at all like the Moxies brownies.. plus they took almost twice as long to as your recipe suggested! Any idea what could be up?

    • Hi Ty,

Sorry for such a late reply! I’ve only made this dish once…the time I posted, so haven’t had much time to experiment with them. You used an 8-inch square pan with the same measurements as what was posted? Do you live in a higher altitude area? I’m smack in the middle of the Canadian prairies, and I’ve heard that cooking time varies quite a bit out east or west where the altitude is higher.

When you say they didn’t turn out like the Moxie’s ones…in what way? Did they taste different? Different consistency?

We’ll get to the bottom of this!

      • Maybe you can try dusting the chocolate chips with some flour before incorporating into your mixture. This usually works for me.

    • My friends and I made these the other day, they were amazing. We made two, the chocolate chips melted in the first one which distorted the flavour a bit, but it was still good. Second time, we let the whole mix cool for several minutes before adding the chips and it came out perfect and super even.

      • R.A. – I’m glad you liked them! Maybe the experience you had with the chocolate chips melting in is what made it taste different for Ty, who commented above?

  7. I can’t wait to try these. Thanks for the recipe!

  8. about to try mine. but my chocolate chips melted completely :( :(

    • How did it turn out? Hopefully yummy despite the melted chocolate chips!

      • it just tasted like regular brownie.

        • Hopefully that’s still good?? ;-)

    • Germaine – there really isn’t anything better than Moxie’s brownies….hopefully these live up to his expectations!

      • Well made them this weekend, should have let the batter cool before adding the chocolate chips, I used milk chocolate instead of semi sweet, chocolate melted, did not have an 8inch square pan, used a round one instead, for some reason the edges hardened when it cooled, the boyfriend rated them good for the first time making them, but practice bakes better.. the were gone the next day, so he must have enjoyed them..will make them again..8$ at moxies for a piece is steep,so making them will be a treat for him..

    • Agreed Ally! If you give them a try, let me know what you think. :)

  10. Well with thrBF’s request I tok this recipe to another level, he loves the cake texture to this recipe and he asked if I could switch the white chocolate in the base of the recipe and substitute it for peanut butter chipits, well uits in the oven now and the BF will be the gunia pig or tester forthe out come and he has said if its good – of courseits going to be good – he tells me I get too make both versions for a BBQ we are going too on saturday.. now he tells me lol lol..

    • Ohh forgot to say- thistime I did not foldin the chocolate chips, using “milk chocolate chips” I sprinkled them on top of the brownies before popping them into the oven, sorry no camera to take a shot of the before and after of the brownies..

      • BF loved them….he’s even taking some towork for the boys for them to try them out..

        • Yum! How did sprinkling the chips on top work?

          • It came out great..Bf loved it, he forgot the brownies today.. but he commented that next time cut back on the amount of pb chipits which I will, I used a whole bag..

  11. hi, I just did the white chocolate brownies, chocolate chips melted and the whole thingi turned to brown color :( , I’ll Wait for the taste which I hope it will b good, what shall I do next time so the chocolate chips won’t mel
    t, thank you

    • Hi Noor! I hope they still turned out tasty! Next time I would let the batter cool for a few minutes until lukewarm before adding the chocolate chips. I’ve added that to the instructions. :)

  12. Great recipe! Thank you. Have you doubled this recipe? A friend wants moxie style brownies for his birthday so I was wondering – To double this, do I cut back on the leavening agents, in your opinion?
    Thanks!

    • Hi Celina!

I wouldn’t change any of the ingredients….just double them all and use a bigger pan – a 9×13 would work fine. Watch the cooking time carefully though, since you’ll have a different thickness with a bigger pan. Keep using a toothpick to check doneness.

Let me know how it turns out!
